The City maintains extensive records of meetings, agendas, and decisions made by the City Council and Economic Development Authority.  These agendas and minutes are to serve as tools for residents and interested parties, but it must be noted that only the paper copies held in the City vaults are the only recognized official transcripts of the City’s events.

Popular Ordinances

Dogs

  • Dogs must be licensed in Sherburn. Licenses are obtained at City Hall – cost is $20 for a lifetime license.

Chickens

  • Chickens are now welcome in Sherburn, with a license! Please stop in to City Hall to view the updated ordinance and take a look at the Chicken License Application and requirements.

Noise Ordinance

  • Loud disruptive noise within the city limits is prohibited.

Weeds Ordinance 

  • No parcel of land shall have noxious weeds or grass greater than a height of six inches.

Solicitors 

  • It is unlawful for any person without a city license to go door-to-door attempting to sell goods. Please contact the Sherburn/Welcome Police Department if a solicitor comes to your home without a license.

The departments of the City of Sherburn work together to provide basic municipal services such as
administration, finance, park maintenance, street maintenance, fire service, police protection, planning and development oversight.
Sherburn City Staff is committed to providing quality services and being responsive to the needs of the community.

City Hall includes the City Clerk and Deputy Clerk’s office. It is also where City Council meetings are held.
The daily affairs of the City of Sherburn are administered through the City Clerk as the chief administrative officer of the City.
Administration functions include:

  • Issuance of licenses and permits
  • Processes water and sewer utility billing and records
  • Official keeper of City records
  • Prepares meeting agendas and minutes for City Council meetings
  • Administration of special assessments
  • Assists the public by responding to a wide variety of inquiries
  • Manages City website
  • Banking relations
  • Coordinates community development activities for the City
  • Coordinates elections processes
  • Prepares the annual City budget
  • Investment of City funds
  • Risk management and loss control
  • Provides staff support to the City Council
  • Debt service analysis and bond payments
  • Implementation of financial and internal controls
  • Provides timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Provides financial support services to the entire organization
  • Coordinates the personnel management system for
    all City departments
  • Plans, organizes, & administers the City to ensure a coordinated and efficient effort to meet goals & objectives established by the City Council
  • Coordinates the City activities involving civic organizations
    and other government agencies on a wide variety of community
    issues and projects
  • Coordinates the operation of all departments in City government: personnel, equipment, buildings, street, water, wastewater, and parks to ensure citizens promptly receive high quality products and services
